| The Mercury is a luxury automobile brand that is owned and marketed
by the Ford Motor Company. The word 'Mercury' means 'messenger of
the gods' in Roman mythology and this particular automobile was supposed
to be something between the entry level and superior luxury vehicles.
The Mercury was slotted between the regular models of Ford and Lincoln.
Till the year 1945, Mercury was an independent division of Ford, but
that year it was combined with Lincoln to form the bigger Lincoln-Mercury
Division. Since then the company started planning to come up with
a new look vehicle and it was finally brought out in 1949. The model
was again modernized in 1952. Over the years Mercury has come out
with a few unique models that are not common to Ford. Some of them
are the Capri, the Mercury Tracer, Mercury Villager, and the Mercury
Cougar. |
